Lake Thunderbird Tourney to Support MD

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

The 24th annual Big Catch fishing tournament to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be June 12 at Lake Thunderbird’s Calypso Cove Marina, off State Highway 9 on Clear Bay Drive.

The event was to be held May 15 but was postponed because of storm damage around the lake.

The tournament offers $5,000 in cash prizes to winning anglers in six different fish categories.

Participants can pick up registration forms at any 7-Eleven or by calling the MDA office at 722-8001.

Those who register on or before June 9 will receive a free Big Catch fishing tournament T-shirt the day of the event. Pre-registration fees are $30 for adults and $15 for children age 11 and younger. Fees after June 9 are $35 for adults and $20 for children, with no T-shirts included.

We drove down to the marina last weekend and that’s where we saw the sign about the upcoming tourney. We ‘rarely’ venture into a 7-11 which was apparently the main sponsor of the event, and I think, thereby missing many opportunities for fishermen to sign up. I think they could use a marketing person….

OSU Wins!

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I told you a few weeks ago about an Oklahoma fishing college tournament. Well, I just heard about another one, and this time the Cowboys won!

The OSU (Oklahoma State University) bass fishing team took first place honors in the FLW College Fishing Tournament held at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Texas. The prize? A cool 10 grand!

The two team members, William Powell and Jeremy Bersche, pulled in just over 18 and a half pounds of fish. The two man teams were allowed to weigh in six fish. One of Jeremy’s fish weighed in at 7.5 pounds!

Congrats to OSU for their big win in Texas!
