Here’s a couple of events taking place this weekend OUTSIDE!

29th: Oklahoma Youth Hunter Education Challenge at Tri-City Gun Club, Norman. For more information contact Amil Lyon at (405) 364-8753 or http://www.yhec.org/norman

29th: Quail Forever Central Oklahoma 89er Chapter and the Oklahoma City Gun Club will host it’s 2nd annual Military Appreciation Shoot Saturday at the Oklahoma City Gun Club, Arcadia. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and lunch will be provided. The ODWC STEP Program will supply shotguns, shells, targets, safety equipment and instruction. This event is for all current members of the military, veterans, and their families in appreciation for their service and sacrifices for our country. The cost for this is FREE. 30: Birding Tour at Boiling Springs State Park. Program starts at 7 a.m. and runs until 9 a.m. Take a unique birding tour through an area that showcases both eastern and western bird species. No fee, no walking, and coffee is provided. Pre-registration is required. Contact: Naturalist Tandy Keenan at (580) 621-3381.

Outside Oklahoma THIS Weekend

Here’s a couple of the outdoorsy type events happening THIS weekend.

22nd: Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and BOOM Outdoors will be hosting a STEP skeet shoot north of Muskogee, behind the wildlife headquarters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free lunch, drinks and door prizes will be provided by BOOM Outdoors. This is a great opportunity to introduce someone new to the sport of shooting, especially ladies and youth. For more information call (918) 781-2880.

22nd: James Collins WMA Outdoor Day at the James Collins Wildlife Management Area from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities will include archery, shotgun, air rifle, casting, critter knocking, turkey calling, critters, crafts, and many other activities for all ages. 22 & 23: 17th Tulsa Wildlife Habitat Garden Tour and Plant Sale presented by the Tulsa Audubon Society.

Five Tulsa gardens designed for wildlife will be on the tour. Birdhouses and native plants will be for sale. Adult admission is $5. Children are admitted free. Log on to www.tulsaaudubon.org Hours on May 22 are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and hours on May 23 are noon to 5 p.m.

What’s Happening OUTSIDE in Oklahoma This Weekend

13-16: Walleye Rodeo at Canton Lake. Look ‘em up at www.walleyerodeo.com

15: The Oklahoma Chapter of North American Versatile Hunting Dogs will have a training day starting at 8 a.m. Check ‘em out at www.OKNAVHDA.com

15: National Rifle Association Women on Target at Tri-City Gun Club (450 Jerry Black Ln, Goldsby). Cost is $35 per person. Women only and must be 21 years or older. Firearms of all types will be provided along with ammunition, hearing and eye protection. Registration required and the deadline was May 8.

15 & 16: Trosper Archery Club 3-D Benefit Shoot. Cost is $15 for adults and $8 for youth for 20 targets. Books open at 8 a.m. and close at 2:30 p.m. both days.

15: Squirrel season opens, and runs through Jan. 31, 2011. Seasons on public land may vary from statewide season dates. Consult the current “Oklahoma Hunting Guide” for specific regulations and details.
