Feeling Safe

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Contribution by Stevie Kirby

When we first moved, I logged on to SecurityChoice.com to explore home-security options. My husband travels a lot, so many nights it is just me home alone with my two young daughters.

We do have two dogs, but sometimes I wonder if there was an intruder, would our dogs do anything but attack them with wet, slobbery kisses? My dogs are certainly not the ferocious type, but you never know what your animals are capable of when they feel as if they are in danger. Would they revert back to pure animalistic instincts to protect and defend their pack?

In having a home security system, I don’t have to worry about relying on my dogs or my husband to make my family feel safe. I feel empowered as a woman and as a mother that I will never be left to question my family’s safety at any given moment. Peace of mind carries no price-tag especially when there are so many things out of your control.

Sadly we live in a world where no place is without concern, so we all do our best to protect our families and investments to our highest potential.

Disc Golf

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

Guest post by Jewel Cole

One of my favorite things to do is go disc golfing. We live in Oregon, and the countryside is absolutely beautiful. I think my favorite thing about disc golf is simply the opportunity to be outside and be active. The sport requires very little endurance. As a matter of fact, my wife would argue that it is not a sport at all. She calls it my hobby. As it is the only semi-athletic thing that I am even remotely good at, I will continue to call it a sport.

A buddy of mine from college who lives in Eugene turned me on to the sport about four years ago. I looked up a couple of courses using our Oregon internet and went and played nine holes by myself. I was immediately hooked. I have since found several other guys who live in my area who also disc golf and we have become very good friends. Occasionally my wife will become annoyed when I go off on a weekend disc golf trip or play with the guys for a couple of hours on a Saturday. However, I continue to remind her that there are far worse hobbies I could have taken up, to which she just smiles and rolls her eyes.

My House

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Authored by Leandro Delgado

When I first bought my house I was really overwhelmed – I had no idea what needed to be done first and I found myself drowning in a sea of warranties and Gexa power information.

Thankfully my mom showed up after a few days and really helped me get organized. It’s only been about 2 months and I haven’t had any huge hiccups. I love that there’s something for me to do here every weekend but you know, it’s nice that I ended up getting the house that didn’t need too much work. That way I can live here and not have to worry too much about not being able to live in the place while I was working on it since most of the stuff I had to do was painting and changing out tiles and getting the floors redone.

I can’t believe how great the place looks and I know that when all is said and done I’m going to have a totally great place to live. That’s the goal!

The above posting was a GUEST post – we let those in every now and again.

First Time Empanada Cook

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

Guest post written by Jake Halton

I made a New Year’s resolution for this year to learn how to cook more things. Before 2011, I was pretty much limited to spaghetti, grilled cheese sandwiches and hot dogs. Well, I can’t live off of those things. And I’m 27, so it’s time to learn how to take better care of myself and cooking is just part of that.

At first, I thought about learning how to cook something new every day, but then I realized just how crazy that would be and time consuming. So instead I decided to learn how to cook something new once a week, which I’ve been able to stick to so far. I mostly go online to find ideas for new recipes and this weekend when I was online trying to find my recipe for the week, I came across some information about satellite internet and decided to check it out and order one of the packages I found.

I decided to make empanadas this week. I’ll order them when I go out to eat sometimes and I’ve always loved them, so it makes perfect sense to learn how to make them.
