IF you live in Minnesota, you can fish for free THIS weekend!
Residents of Minnesota, age 18 and over, can fish for free this coming holiday weekend. Saturday, Sunday and Monday is the three-day Take-A-Kid Ice Fishing weekend. The only stipulation? You must take a child under 16 with you.
Every year in Minnesota there are about 150,000 fishing shelters on area lakes. That’s a lot of fisherman!

When ice fishing, dress in layers to stay warm. You can always remove a layer if you get too warm.
Wear a hat! Most of your body heat escapes through the top of your head. That’s why our grandparents and great grandparents wore stocking caps to bed!
Wear a scarf! It’s a necessity, especially if the wind is blowing strong.
Wear good socks! Thick wool socks are the best. They wick moisture away from the body.
Rubber soled boots! You might need that traction and the insulation will help keep your tootsies toasty.
Foremost – stay safe while introducing a child to the fun of ice fishing!
