Fishing Memories

“Wanna’ go fishin’? “ I can hear my Grandpa asking. “We’d better git’ some worms then.” He’d say as he sauntered off towards the chicken house.

I remember digging for fishing worms out behind the old chicken house with my Grandpa Bill. There were always worms there, and as a child, I could never figure out how he knew they’d be there. Just took a little digging with one of Grandma’s kitchen spoons and soon we’d have an old can just chock full of those red wigglers.

Somehow, he magically already had the cane poles and bobbers all ready to go and with the addition of the freshly dug worms we’d be off for a day of fishing.

Of course Grandpa always had to bait my hook, repeatedly, and I don’t recall catching much more than a few perch, but those were fine days spent, fishin’ with Grandpa.

What’s your fondest fishing memory?
