Lake House

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Ever visited or stayed at a house overlooking a lake?

Man, it’s enough to make you want to take out a new mortgage! You get up in the morning, grab some coffee and walk past the big old windows overlooking the water, you can’t help but be invigorated, ready to hit the water, or at least ‘dream’ about it.

The spouse likes the spot on the lake too, maybe, just maybe it’s might be time to suggest you two look at new home plans.

You want a deck overlooking the water at the very least and maybe a small pier, or boathouse. She wants a lavish kitchen setup.

The list of desires and grow and grow and your modest craftsman house plans can suddenly morph into huge modern house plans that would set you back a pretty penny.

But then, reality sets back in, and you bring those dreams back down to earth and start thinking in more realistic terms.

Decide what your budget will allow and then move forward. Perhaps you could consider a small cabin at a less inclusive lake. Or maybe you can sell your old house, and build a new one, to your specs, overlooking the lake.

If you want it bad enough, you can figure out a way to get it.

Utah’s HB 141

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Utah’s governor, Herbert signed into law House Bill 141, the stream access bill.

The bill limits access to waterways…

The way I understand it, the current rivers are open to fisherman provided they ‘enter’ on public lands. The new law prohibits access to private streambeds. This would require getting permission from the landowners on the river or stream.

Talk about a headache!

Fishin’ & Bugs

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I’m not touting this product, I just have to share.

I was tooling around on the internet looking for something else when I spotted this Insect-A-Peel trap at Arbico-Organics. It uses the sticky yellow pads to attract and collect flying insects, BUT, it’s larger than most and it comes on a roll.

I can “SO” see this at fish camp! (or deer camp – or just camping).

It’s intended for barns and cow/horse pastures but I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t use it elsewhere, even your backyard!

Whatta ya think?

I want it! I’ve bookmarked it!

No I’m not affiliated with Arbico-Organics in any way, or their product, Insect-A-Peel. I just thought it would be a great product to use – so I’m sharing!

Grand Lake

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Grand Lake begins where the Elk & Spring river combine with the Neosho. Grand Lake itself if a whopping 46000 acres with 1300 MILES of shoreline.

What do lots of folks fish for at Grand Lake?

Crappie

Grand Lake is highly developed. It’s a vacation spot, a weekend getaway spot, lots of big homes as well as cabins on the shorelines and many of those have floating docks and boathouses. All of which make great crappie hiding places. Smart anglers save their Christmas trees and submerge them (tied so that they don’t wash away) on their docks.

Look for the man-made brush pile structures just off the shorelines and you’ll find crappie. It’s almost guaranteed!

crappie

Lake Keystone is situated about 15 miles west of Tulsa. The lake is formed from the Arkansas and Cimarron rivers plus some creeks. It’s steep shorelines attract spawning crappie and it’s shallow shorelines provide lots of cover.

Chandler’s Bell Cow

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Just a little ways north of OKC is Chandler’s Bell Cow Lake. Bell Cow opened in the 90′s and is still relatively unknown.

This lake is purported to have an excellent sized bass, not tons of fish but quality fish.

In the spring, the bass move into the flats before spawning, so fishing is good then. A good spot to check (and catch) bass is off the north bank of the lake as well as the lakes ditches and creeks.

Why not try Bell Cow this weekend?

McGee Creek

Bass at McGee Creek in Oklahoma? You betcha!

McGee Creek, about 2 1/2 hours from OKC is one of the best big bass lakes in Oklahoma. Many bass are pulled out of the lake weighing over 10 lbs.

McGee Creek is sometimes a little ‘green’ with lots of forage for both perch and shad. Three main creeks feed into the lake, all great fishing spots.

Try the brushy areas. It’s a sure ‘hit’!

Arbuckle Lake

If you’re tired of all the fisherman stealing your secret spot consider trying a new lake. Arbuckle Lake is one of Oklahoma’s best kept secrets!

Bass weighing in at over ten pounds have been caught there!

Arbuckle Lake is in the middle of the Arbuckle Mountain range in southern Oklahoma, just north a ways of Ardmore. It’s been said that Arbuckle is the best winter lake around!

The lake features hydrilla, a water plant known to be a favorite hangout of big bass! Find hydrilla and you’ll find bass.
