Fish Friendly Upgrades

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Power plants use millions of gallons of water every single day. Those plants in New York will now have to switch to the costlier fish-friendly cooling towers under new rules proposed by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

Installing such towers would presumably save billions of fish and fish eggs each year. The consumer will ultimately pay the retrofit costs.

Start Up Stealing

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

A man in Vermont was recently arrested for stealing fish from a fish store in an attempt to start his own basement fish breeding company.

How do you walk out of a pet store with fish? In your pockets?

The thief was brazen, he helped himself to the fishbags, caught them himself and walked out the door.

How’d he get caught? He was recognized on surveillance. Seems he had came in the week before and bought some fish half price and left his business card.

Some folks.

Fish Fetti

Monday, March 8th, 2010

What happens when two fishermen decide to get married? Well, ok, one fisherman and one fisherwoman.

You get a fishing themed wedding.

The lake pier becomes the aisle the wedding party marches down. The landing becomes the altar.

The bride wears a fishing vest over her long white gown and the groom wears waders.

They carry the theme over to the reception where trout is the main entree.

White wine of course to serve with the fish. The grooms chocolate cake is crafted to look like a fishing tackle box.

Each table has an ocean scented candle and each table and the floor is strewn with wedding confetti shaped like fish!

It’s a fun fishing theme wedding.

Sure, you can haul a little bit each time you go, but then you end up missing vital items, just when you need them most.

Ever take the grill, and the charcoal, and the steaks but forget the steak knives?

The solution, the EASY solution? Forget the one way truck rental use a U-Pack service. You load it all up and they move it.

Old Fish

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Did you hear about the spearfisherman that caught a gigantic sturgeon? The sturgeon weighed over 200 lbs and was estimated to be a 100 years old.

Kind of sad.

The sturgeon would have become legal size for the Winnebago spear fishery in 1918. Sturgeon harvest on the Lake Winnebago System was closed from 1915 to 1932; the first modern spear fishery on Lake Winnebago opened in the winter of 1931-32 with a 30-inch minimum size limit and a five-fish-per-spearer season limit.

This fish therefore was legal size for all 78 spearing seasons held since 1932.

Bite

I’ve been going to the same dental office for years and years. My original dentist sold the practice to a new lady dentist many years ago, and I just kept going. She’s now brought in a partner and I’m still going.

It’s not nearby.

I travel about 45 miles one way to get to my dentist. Why? Because I trust them.

People down in Austin feel the same way about Austin Orthodontics. They’ll venture cross that 271 square miles of the city proper to get to their dentist of choice.

If you’re in the Austin area – check them out. You’ll find your dentist for life, just like I did.
