Slurpies

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I’ve never ‘seen’ one of these in person but they are supposed to be the hot new bait for bass!

The ‘swimbait” is a swimming minnow with a holographic glitter and shimmer that attracts bass to it. They come in two sizes, a 4 1/2 incher and a 5 inch size and comes with a weighted No 6 Lip-stick swimbait hook.

Great little gift for Father’s day!!!

You can find this baby at the Northland Fishing Tackle website which is www.northlandtackle.com.

No – no one paid me to say that.

Remington

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Where in Oklahoma do you do horse race betting? I think it’s just Remington Park. Although it seems like I remember seeing a racing place on the north side of 40 when you head towards Arkansas…

I should go someday, just to say I’ve been.

Master Hunter – Or What To Do at Deer Camp

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

There’s a new board game on the market, I haven’t got my hands on one yet, but I read about it in Oklahoma Game and Fish magazine.

It’s a board game, duh, that is hunting related. The concept is a chase. Hunters travel around the US in search of trophy game animals and get to fill their tags through their use of knowledge, luck and strategy.

Questions include topics of wildlife, hunting techniques as well as regulations, first aid, safety and survival.

The winner? The one with the most trophies – becomes Master Hunter.

GaGa

Who goes fishing in high heels, skimpy underwear and a mans shirt?

Not your wife!

It’s Lady Gaga.

She recently made a trip to Waiheke Island for a little fishing and ventured down to the waterfront in eight-inch heels, undies and a man’s button front shirt.

Oh my. Bet that was a sight!

Boston & Points North

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

One little fishy was spotted in the flooded Wilmington Delaware commuter rail station. The fish arrived at the height of the flooding apparently from the Shawsheen River following the track of the old Middlesex Canal.

His mantra? “Just keep swimming.”

Ray Ramono

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

I’m a fan of the show, Men of a Certain Age. Have you seen it? It’s middle aged men (fiftyish) living life in their own ways. There’s the salesman dominated by his father, Scott Bakula playing an aging bachelor, and Ray Ramono as a divorced man battling gambling. On the first show he was seen playing solitare presumably at some online casinos for real money, lost, then phoned his wife and said “I quit gambling.”

Well he did, for a moment…

The show has drawn me in. It’s on Monday evenings. Add it to your Monday lineup.

Big Honkin’ Truck

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I’ve two neighbors that have big honkin’ trucks. Now, I live out in the country. I can’t even see my neighbors houses from here, but about 6:30 every morning I can hear them start their big old diesels to let them warm up.

I wonder if they make a sound dampener for diesel trucks? I wonder if a neighborly gift of a such a device (if it exists) would be deemed offensive? I should go look up some online truck accessories for such a device. (Hmmm, maybe I could invent it!) :)

Seafood Training Center

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

The Seafood Training Center in the UK recently had a promotion asking women to submit their best fishing quote. The winners of the contest, inspired by International Women’s month, were treated to a fish fillet class.

The three ladies with the winning entries spent a day learning the fine art of fish filleting. The women, already great fisherman, learned smart filleting techniques for plaice, whiting, salmon, haddock and more.

The Perfect Catch

Monday, March 15th, 2010

I’ve a 30 something female friend that’s never been married. She surprised me last week by flashing a ring on her left hand in front of my face.

Who’d a thunk it?

She had taken a short vacation to Arkansas and met this man at a resort, where he took her fishing. It was apparently a match made in heaven.

He taught her all about fishing, and she reeled him in!

They’re planning an outside wedding on the boat docks at a local lake. She’s already bought and mailed the save the date cards! She’s on top of it!

Since they’re getting hitched at the waterside she’s looking for either a fishing theme set of letterpress wedding invitations or water themed wedding invitations or even just blue ones.

You see, she does know what she wants and she’s not afraid to go after it, even if it’s wearing waders and a fishing vest!

Seriously though, I wish all the best for Marilyn and her new fiance! May all their lines be taut, may their poles be limber, and may their bobbers bob.

Gee, I hope they don’t ask me to do a toast at the reception!

Here’s to the Happy Couple and the perfect catch!
