Stock Photos

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Sometimes whether here or one of my other sites, I need images that I can’t get because of location or subject or this darn Oklahoma weather.

When that happens, like other photographers, I turn to the net for my sources. There are a couple places that I get photos from but the other day I noticed that there are also stock sites that deal with a more niche market. You can find them for just about any market, even something like Moscow photography.

Just keep that in the back of your mind. Could come in handy some day.

Steering Wheel on the Wrong Side

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

The other day I noticed a car in front of me. Looked a little different. Couldn’t quite place what ‘was’ different.

Had to get a closer look.

Sleek and small and red and when I got close enough I noticed the steering wheel was on the other side. Whoa, don’t see that everyday.

Turned out it belonged to a friend of a friend who spotted it on a trip to Europe, bought it and had it shipped back.

He hadn’t intended on shopping for used cars on his trip, it just happened. But that makes him the only person around with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

But it doesn’t have to be that way - anyone can do it. And it doesn’t have to be some fancy brand either, you can find used ford cars or even used volkswagen cars, dudden hurt to look!

Quiet Fishing

Friday, February 19th, 2010

You’re at your favorite fishing hole with your pole in the water. Everything around you is quiet as a mouse. The water is so clear that you can actually see the fish you’re trying to catch.

You gingerly toss your line so that only the fly hits the water, so as not to let the fish be aware of your presence. Everything is nice and quiet.

Then your kid blasts his music!

DARN!

There go the fish…

What you need is an IPOD and some ipod touch accessories Once he has a good headset or earplugs you can go back to fishing in piece. The music is silent to you - only he hears it.

You can get these online really easily. They even have the new ipod touch 2g accessories.

Come on. Your kid will love it and you can fish in silence.

Non-Essentials to Pack

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Wondering how to keep those kids corralled during your next fishing trip? Kids just won’t ‘fish’ all the time – they need some distractions.

Hardy Boys books and board games just do not cut it when you’re out fishing. You need something to keep those kids busy that can be used outside.

Consider buying and taking along one of those new radio controlled helicopters. Hide that Radio Control Helicopter amongst the non-essentials in the back of the truck or rv and bring it out when the kids give you that eventual “I’m bored” speech.

They sure won’t be bored anymore!

And chances are you’ll let the poles fish themselves while you play some too!

Mullein: It’s Uses

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus ) grows wild around here. It pops up with its velvety leaves and grows as wide as a truck tire. The second year it will send forth a tall spike topped with tiny yellow flowers.

Our Native American ancestors used mullein in many different ways.

The stalks were harvested to use as spindles for friction fire making, as kindling and they wrapped with the dried leaves, soaked them in fat and used as torches.

The little yellow flowers are harvested and infused into an oil and used for earaches, made into tinctures or used in herbal tea.

The thick velvety soft leaves were often used for smoking. It’s purported to ease a variety of ailments including sinus issues and other respiratory conditions.

Most people that use mullein use the dried leaves as fresh leaves are typically hard to find. You might even be lucky enough to find mullein growing nearby. To harvest mullein for smoking you need to pick a few leaves and hang them somewhere out of the weather to dry for a few days. The best way I’ve found to dry herbs is to put a few in a paper bag loosely, close the bag with a clothes pin and hang out of the weather until dry.

Once they are dry you can cut, tear or crumble the pieces. You can then use the mullein as it is or mix it with other smoking herbs.

Are you perhaps a little concerned about visiting the tobacco store to buy rolling papers? Worried what people might think?

Did you know that you can order rolling papers online?

RollingPapers.com offers a wide variety of papers, from plain or flavored, even hemp ones. Their packages come with a discreet return address, even your mailman won’t know what you’ve ordered!

Football Commercials

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

I’m sure you’ve all seen the great commercials playing in and around the Super Bowl. Did you see the UNITARD guy?

He’s the one that helps save you when you do a vacation rental.

If you haven’t seen it yet - you can see his funny vacation rental commercial by clicking the link here in this sentence.

He reminds me of a local commercial from a long time ago here in the Oklahoma area, seems like it was a car dealer maybe? that wore a ‘unitard’ and a cape… He was silly as is this guy.

The point I suppose is to get you to remember to use Vacation Rental.org when you book your next vacation as the Unitard man saves vacations, one rental at a time.
