Sorry Charlie

I like tuna fish sandwiches as well as the next guy, but £110,000 for a tuna? (xe.com says that’s over $175,000 in US dollars)

The big tuna weighed in at over 500 pounds. Anyway you look at it – that’s a lot of money, for a fish!

The bluefin tuna was acquired by three sushi restaurants in Japan and Hong Kong. Apparently tuna is a great fish for sushi and most of the sushi consumed in the world is eaten in Japan.

The world over, people are concerned about the tuna population and overfishing. I myself used to consume tuna (but not sushi) on a regular basis. I’ve since curtailed that immensely due to the worldwide demise of tuna.

I’ll stick with fried catfish…

Sea Lions Disappear

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

The sea lions have all but disappeared from Pier 39 in San Francisco.

They aren’t being swallowed up by some gigantic sea monster. They aren’t being driven away or harmed in any way. The mass exodus appears to be natural.

The sea lions congregate on the Piers when the fishing is good. When their meal-fish move on, well, so do the sea lions.

Warming water temperatures have delayed the typical ice formations that signals the animals that it’s time to move on. Dolphins are hanging around the area longer than normal presumably eating up the abundant fish the sea lions typically call lunch, which in turn sends the sea lions elsewhere looking for food.
