Oklahoma Wildlife Expo

Monday, September 28th, 2009

It’s a drive.

Will I go again?

You betcha!

But no shortcuts though……

Your best bet is to FOLLOW the directions listed on the Oklahoma Wildlife Expo website…. Lots of roads in that area don’t go anywhere….

Lots of fishing items at the expo! SAW AN ACTUAL HUMONGOUS PADDLEFISH!

There was an airboat.

those things are bigger than they look going down the highway….

MANY booths on different methods of fishing and I’ll share as I dig out the phamplets…..

Today, I just wanted to leave you with something we’ve talked about before. Zebra mussels.
We got ‘em here. We don’t want ‘em here. Clean your boat!!!

Top Ten Fly Fishing Spots

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Did you see who made the top ten fly-fishing locales on Forbes best list?

West Yellowstone

Missoula, Montana

Roscoe, New York

State College, Pa.

Grayling, Michigan

Calgary, Alberta

Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Mountain Home, Arkansas

Redding, CA

Asheville, N.C.

That’s some list! I would venture a guess that for most of us, our favorite fly-fishing spot is the last place we fly-fished, even if it was when we were kids, or last week.

Australian Teens Reel in a BIG ONE

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Australian teens reeled in TWO huge catches recently in New South Wales. They were out fishing and pulled in two bricks of bills. Those bricks contained 20’s & 50’s secured with rubber bands and wrapped in plastic.

Sounding like something a little fishy, or even a drug deal gone bad, the boys turned the funds in to the local police. If the true owner doesn’t show, well, they get to keep the fifty grand!

2 Million Dead Fish

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Two million dead fish are causing a stink in a section of the Neuse River in North Carolina. The dead fish are mostly young Atlantic Menhaden.

It’s believed that the fish were killed from oxygen poor water caused by winds.

It’s the biggest fish kill in a decade on that river. Last year, a half million fish were killed in the area, also because of a lack of oxygen.

Cable TV & Fishing

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

I knew there were a couple of Sunday afternoon fishing shows, but I had NO idea there was a dedicated fishing channel!

The WFN, the World Fishing Network, is a 24 hour a day, fishing lifestyle channel.

The available shows include: Bass Edge, Dave Mercer, Fish PAA, Bill Dance, Fins n skins, Fish TV and many more.

Where have I been?

If you have Dish Network, Verison, Charter or GVTC, well get to ordering the World Fishing Network so that you too can enjoy fishing shows, 24-7!!!

One Fish Two Fish BIG FISH

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Did you know that there is a book dedicated to fishing records?

YES! It’s the International Game Fish Association’s book of “World Record Game Fishes.”

Records are listed for over a thousand different international species of fish.

It’s an oversized paperback, costing about $40 (which also includes membership in the IGFA, the International Angler newsletter and entry to the IGFA museum in Dania Beach, Florida).

This fishing book covers everything from tiny fish, to Zander fish (record 25 pounds 2 ounces from Sweden), stories about fishing conservation, angling stories, fish identification, as well as fish records, and will make a great Christmas gift for the fisherman on your holiday gift list!

Fishing in the Backwoods?

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Consider getting a pack animal.

donkeys

donkeys

They’re cheaper than a 4-wheel Gator, require less pasture than a mule, and are hardy, fun animals.

You can learn more about donkeys as pack animals at where else, but donkeys.com.

Your donkey can help carry all that equipment in for you and be a great companion while you’re there.

Extreme Fishing School Makeover

Extreme Fishing School Makeover

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition rebuilt the Fishing School in Washington DC.

The Fishing School doesn’t teach fishing per se, but it does teach kids based on the saying” If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and he will feed himself for a lifetime.”

Their academic programs have helped over 2500 kids fish in the rivers of their minds.

The Fishing School is a place for kids to learn, play and be themselves.

Thank you Extreme Makeover!
